You have seen an advertisement in an Australian magazine for someone to live with a family for six months and look after their six-year-old child. Write a letter to the parents. In your letter explain ● Why would you like the job? ● Give details of why you would be a suitable person to employ. ● How would you spend your free time while you are in Australia?

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing
this
letter to apply for the job opportunity posted in Australian magazine. I graduated from Sydney University
last
week and got a placement in one of the renowned companies in the city. Since my posting has been delayed for 6 months
due to
unforeseen situations, I am looking for
this
job. I am a person with a friendly nature having 2 years of experience in babysitting during my graduation journey. Because of my experience and affection towards kids make me a suitable person for
this
opportunity. I can help with kid’s studies.
Moreover
, I am a fitness-enthusiastic person and
thus
I can engage him in some exercises which are good for the
overall
well-being of the children. I am a travel vlogger as well and love to explore different parts of the country during my free time. I hope you will take my application into consideration and provide me with an opportunity to stay with you and look after your son. Regards, Birjesh Sharma

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
