The charts below illustrate the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent doing housework in one particular country in 100 years.
There have been steady increases in the possession of electrical devices in households, washing machines, refrigerators and vacuum cleaners included. At the beginning, in 1920, only 30% of the domestic houses owned vacuum cleaners, and hardly any house had a refrigerator.
However
, the number kept rising rapidly, and, after 2000, these two appliances were utilized in every household in the country. Growth in the percentage of washing machines was also
seen, from 40% in 1920 to about 75% in 2019, despite experiencing a slight decline from 1960 to 1980.
As for the sum of time spent on housework, it can be seen that there was a sharp decrease in average hours
used for washing clothes, preparing meals and cleaning, from 50 hours
per week in 1920 to 20 hours
in 1960. In contrast
, after 1980, the figure remained stable at the level of around 10 hours
a week.
According to
the graphs, it is obvious that the ownership of the three appliances in the household went up dramatically, and a huge reduction in time spent on housework could be seen.Submitted by 1762832590 on
