The bar graph illustrates the average amount of money spent by families across several categories in 1968 and 2018.
Overall
, in 1968, the highest household expenditure was in the food category,
while
the least was in the fuel and power category.
On the other hand
, the families' spending habits were shifted in 2018, with the majority of them spending more on recreational things.
Firstly
, it can be seen that in 1968, the food category became the highest priority of spending. They spent 35% of their weekly income on meals only.
On the contrary
, only around 6% of their income was allocated for gasoline. Another valuable insight from the chart is people's budget for personal goods, household goods, and transport. These three groups shared a similar amount of numbers with approximately 7% of household's salaries invested in the said categories. Moving to the families' spending behaviour in 2018, the vast majority of households prioritised their quality time and spent around 23% of their income per week. As opposed to that, personal goods and fuel and power groups became the least with less than 5% of their spending allocated for these categories.
