The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The bar chart illustrates how many
families
inhabited their own or rented houses or apartments in England and Wales in the period from 1918 to 2011.
Overall
, it can be seen that over the period, the proportion of people, who bought their own accommodations, dramatically increased, in contrast
with the number of families
that inhabited leased places. In 1971 the percentages were the same for both renting and buying.
In 1918 only about 20% of the households were living in their own homes. In time this
number increased, and came to half of the population in 1971, and then
continued to rise until 2001, when it reached just under 70% of all residents. A slight drop followed in 2011 with around 60% of families
living in owned households, however
, they still outnumbered the families
, who lived in rental housing (35%).
On the other hand
, almost 80% of the households lived in leased accommodation in 1918, with the tendency for numbers to decline in time when in 1971, they reached the other half of the population. From this
point, the proportions continued to drop and in 2010 it was about 30% with a slight growth in 2011.Submitted by delulcheva on
