The diagram represents global rates of illiteracy broken down by gender and
also
area for
last
year. It can be noticed that approximately half of women in South Asia, Arab States and Sub-Saharan Africa cannot read or write. The majority of illiterate people are in South Asia. Men are more able to read and write in
this
region than females, but still,
this
proportion is higher compared with males in other areas. In the rest of the world rates of illiteracy are much lower with nearly everybody living in developed countries being able to read and write, falling almost to 90% in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
However
, there are more illiterate people in East Asia and Oceania.
Overall
, there are great differences in illiteracy across the globe,
moreover
, women are much less able to read. It can be explained that education in developed countries is better than in the rest of the world.
