is compressed by heavy equipment. It causes the soil
to become hard and 'baked', causing rainwater to run off and result in flooding.

The final consequence is a reduction in the amount of moisture plants return to the air. Because there is less moisture in the air, it leads to less rainfall, leading to increased drought.
