Overall
, the figure for holidays stood the highest and showed the most dramatic boost while
that for business and visiting friends and relatives rose more mildly. Others remained the lowest with only a minor increase.
Starting with the highest, the figure for holidays rose radically from 9 billion
pounds in 1993 to about 26 billion
in 2008. Then
, it experienced a sudden drop to just above 21 billion
and remained relatively stable until 2012, from which it recovered to nearly 24 billion
in 2013.
Turning to the graphs with a slight increase, expenditure on business rose from approximately 2 billion
in 1993 to just below 6 billion
in 2008 whereas
that for visiting friends and family increased from around 1 billion
to about 5 billion
over the fifteen years, from which they both stood on the same level there until 2013.
Looking at the remaining graph, miscellaneous continued to be the lowest with no significant change at around 2 billion
