of phones went up considerably and most households with various

experienced an upward trend for four years. At the beginning of the period, the washing machine had the highest
rate
among five different
technologies
. The figure was 60%. Except for the figure for computers, the other
technologies
recorded less than 30%. The figure for washing machines and computers showed a steady increase throughout the period.
However
, the percentage of phones rose gradually from 20% to over 70%, which overtook that of the computer
at the end
of the period. With regards to the DVD player, it had decreased by approximately 10% before growing steadily. It rose to 40%.
Although
the
rate
of Internet climbed slightly from 1996 to 1998, it increased suddenly to over the
rate
of DVD players in 1999.
