The maps below show part of a village in 1910, and the same part of that village in 2010.
The maps illustrate how Shalton
Village
changed from 1990 to 2010.
In 1990, there was a School
Road
presenting from northeast to southwest and a London Road
from northwest to southeast and at the intersection of the two
roads
was a post office. A High Street occupied the south of the village
, crossing with the above two
roads
. Two
houses
were located beside the road
, where the traffic was convenient. A large house surrounded by trees stood in the middle of the three roads
and in the two
corners were respectively a grocer and a baker.
However
, the village
altered significantly after two
decades, in particular
the houses
. The original two
houses
in the south of the village
were rebuilt into four smaller ones beside the High Street. More new houses
were developed beside the two
sides of London Roads
. The grocer in the cross of School
Road
and High Street had gone and in its place was a cafe. The school
in the south corner of the village
had remained the same, but the butcher on the left of the School
Road
was replaced by a new Supermarket and a Parking. A new bank was constructed opposite the previous post office.
Overall
, the village
still possessed many former elements, including three main roads
, some houses
, a school
and a post office while
some new facilities appeared, a cafe and a bank for example
