The graphs below the transport modes in European city between 1960 and 2000. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The bar chart compares 4 types of
transportation
in European cities in the years 1960, 1980 and 2000 by the percentages of all travellers.
It is clear that
in 1960 travelling by
foot
was the most used way to move from place to place, but in 2000, the
car
became the primary source of
transportation
. In 1960 the
car
was the least used transport with 5%,
whereas
the
foot
was the most used with approximately 35%. But, in 1980, the
car
overtook the
foot
in the percentage of travellers and in the period of 40 years the
car
saw a rise of about 30%, meanwhile the
foot
saw a decline by a similar amount. The other two kinds of
transportation
however
either declined dramatically or fluctuated over
this
period. Travelling by bus saw a rapid rise in 1980 reaching slightly above 25%,
while
bike usage decreased by around 5%. in the next 20 years,
nevertheless
, both of these
transportation
dropped significantly, and the usage of buses and bikes reduced by 10% and close to 15% respectively.
