Writing Task 1
The table presents data on the
number
of local and international
research
students
enrolled in Australian universities in 2001 and 2010. The data shows a significant increase in the total
number
of
research
students
over
this
period, with a notable rise in the
number
of international
students
. In 2001, there were 38,849
research
students
in total, comprising 33,657 local
students
and 5,192 international
students
. By 2010, the total
number
of
research
students
had grown to 54,081, with local
students
increasing to 39,488 and international
students
showing a substantial rise to 14,593. The most striking change is the increase in international
research
students
, which nearly tripled from 2001 to 2010.
Although
the
number
of local
students
also
increased, the growth rate was less pronounced compared to that of international
students
. In summary, the data indicates that
while
the
number
of local
research
students
in Australian universities increased modestly between 2001 and 2010, the
number
of international
research
students
saw a much more significant rise, leading to a larger and more diverse
research
student population by 2010.
