The diagram illustrates the process of generating
electricity
in a hydroelectric
power
station, which operates differently during the day and night. During the day,
water
flows from a high-level
reservoir
through a dam to generate
electricity
,
while
at night,
water
is pumped back from a low-level
reservoir
to the high-level
reservoir
for reuse. In the daytime,
water
is released from the high-level
reservoir
through an intake that remains open. The
water
flows downhill to the
power
station, where it turns reversible turbines, generating
electricity
.
This
electricity
is
then
transferred to the national grid via
power
lines. After passing through the turbines, the
water
is stored in a low-level
reservoir
. At night, the process is reversed. The intake is closed, and the turbines are used to pump
water
from the low-level
reservoir
back to the high-level
reservoir
, ensuring that the system is ready to produce
electricity
again during the day.
This
cyclical process allows for continuous
power
generation.
