The social and practical effects of learning a second language in the host country will be discussed in this article, which will conclude that while there are always going to be social and practical difficulties, the degree of those difficulties varies widely depending on the situation and does not necessarily lead to grave errors. This can affect many aspects of daily life, from communication to career opportunities and even mental health.
