Task response
Score: 4. Your answer is too short and is not complete. You give only one reason, and you do not write about the effects on society. Add at least two reasons and explain each one. Then write a full paragraph about what may happen to society, such as fewer doctors, teachers, and people who can make new things.
Task response
Give an example for each main point. For example, some students may choose business because they think it will help them get a job with more money. This will make your ideas clearer.
Coherence and cohesion
Score: 4. Use clear paragraphs: one for the introduction, one or two for reasons, one for effects, and one short ending. Your answer now stops after the first reason.
Coherence and cohesion
Link your ideas with simple words such as “because”, “also”, “for example”, “as a result”, and “therefore”. Do not only list ideas; explain how one idea leads to the next.
Coherence and cohesion
Write a short final paragraph. It can say that science is hard and may not seem to pay well, but fewer science students can cause problems for society in the future.
Task response
You give a clear main idea: science study takes a lot of time and may seem less profitable than other subjects.
Coherence and cohesion
The first paragraph tells the reader that you will write about reasons and effects. The next paragraph starts with “Firstly”, so the order is clear.
Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
Topic Vocabulary:
  • Lack of interest
  • Perceived difficulty
  • Career opportunities
  • Rigorous coursework
  • Scientific theory
  • Uninspiring teachers
  • Outdated teaching methods
  • Cultural influences
  • Societal beliefs
  • Stereotypes
  • Financial constraints
  • Higher education
  • Prohibitive cost
  • Real-world applications
  • Enthusiasm for the subject
