Some say that music, art and drama are as important as other school subjects, especially at the primary level. Do you agree or disagree?
It is argued that arts studies are just important as academic subjects. This essay agrees with that statement and will explain why art, drama and music are necessary for children to develop creative skills and help pupils in developing social skills at the primary level School are the perfect place for children to develop creative skills. The brain in early childhood is capable to learn a variety of skills and developing personal thought and beliefs. Many children have difficulties with traditional subjects and they easier to express their fear through arts. A recent study in Australia showed that 28% of children in the first year of school prefer to use drawings to express their feelings. These activities have proven to assist child to communicate better and help professor to understand their mind. In addition, extra curricular activities help children to develop social skills. Being part of a band or a drama group assist child to respect each other and how do deal with others that are different from them. Unlike mathematics or physics that demand self-study, social skills need interaction and improve their communication performances. The New York Times, for example said that, nearly half of HR executives owe their good communication skills to their drama and music classes in primary school. Therefore, these subjects are essential part of childhood. In conclusion, arts, dance and music, should be given the same importance as others subject in primary school, since they will allow children to be creative and express themselves, as well as learn to communicate better and be able to socialize more with others.
