You would like to take some time off of work to attend a training course. Write a letter to your supervisor asking for permission to attend the course. In your letter • describe the training course. • say how it will help improve your job performance. • explain how much time you need off and ask for permission.
Dear Mr. Chan, I would like to ask your permission for a few days off from work. I hope to attend a software training
course
that will help me with my job. The course
lasts one week. A special course
on using publications software will be given next month. Participants in this
course
will learn how to use the software to design and publish newsletters, brochures, and other materials. As you know, I have recently taken on responsibility for producing our company newsletter. I have some ideas for improving the appearance of the newsletter, but I lack the technical knowledge. This
course
would help me produce a really great-looking newsletter for our clients to read. The course
begins on the first of next month and goes from Monday until Friday. Therefore
, I would have to be away from work for the whole week. However
, I feel the skills I will gain will be well worth it. I hope you will let me take this
time off for the course
. Please let me know what you think. Structure your letter
A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:
- A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
- The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
- A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)
When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.
All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
