We have been living in the nuclear age now for over half a century. Since the first atomic bombs were developed, nuclear technology has provided governments with the ability to totally destroy the planet. Yet the technology has been put to positive use as an energy source and in certain areas of medicine. What are the benefits and risks associated with its use?

Nuclear
technology
has always been a cause of terror among people since its inception and

during the

World War.
This
threat has been
further
escalated in the recent years with many countries entering the race to acquire
this
technology
.
Although
,
this
technology
has the capability

to
completely annihilate the planet if used as a weapon, its positive
use
cannot be denied inadvertently.
This
essay is an attempt to explore the benefits and risks which are associated with the
use
of nuclear
technology
. On the positive side, it has been corroborated by many scientists that nuclear
technology
has the potential to save
human kind
all of the living human inhabitants of the earth
humankind
from the impending
energy
crisis. The traditional fuel sources used by us
such
as coal, petroleum and diesel are non-renewable and
thus
are depleting at an alarming rate due to our
overdependence
on them. On top of that, they are
also
causing an irrevocable damage to the environment upon being burned since they release toxic gases into the atmosphere.
However
, nuclear
technology
is not only an efficient source of
energy but

energy, but
is
also
one of the cleanest sources.
For instance
, a single pellet of uranium can produce as much
energy
as an entire coal plant can in a single day.
Likewise
, the process of producing

with fission

any detrimental impact on the environment as it leads to very insignificant amount of emissions.
Therefore
, it would not be wrong to say that in future,
this
technology
can prove to be the ideal alternative to satiate our
energy
needs. Another useful application of
this
technology
can be seen in the field of medical science, namely for the treatment and diagnostic purposes.
For example
, radio surgery, which is a recently invented method, is both painless and less time-consuming than the conventional surgeries.
Similarly
, chemotherapy, which is based on the same principle, is
also
being put to
use
to treat cancerous cells in human bodies. As for diagnostic purposes, the CT scans and x-rays used for scanning the human body,
also
work with radiation.
Furthermore
, irradiation, a process which utilizes radiations to preserve food for a long time is yet another
use
of nuclear tech. On the negative side, the greater the number of

. The injudicious
use
of
this
technology
for military purposes can result in the destruction of life as we know it. A perfect example of
this
would be the incidents

in
Hiroshima and Nagasaki of japan during world war two when the USA dropped nuclear bombs leading to the death of thousands of people. The risk of

being destroyed has
further
exacerbated today since the bombs which are developed these days are far more potent than the bombs used during that incident. What is more,
this
technology
is
also
prone to misuse. To illustrate, dictatorial governments still exist today and they follow very narrow political and religious ideologies.
Hence
, they are less likely to exercise caution in the usage of the most powerful means of destroying their perceived enemies. In the same manner, if
this
technology
falls into the hands of terrorists and extremist groups, they can
also
put it to
use
for their own agendas, leading to mass destruction.
Also
, there is no viable option to dispose the nuclear waste safely as the waste can continue to emit radiation even after being expended

This
can pose a great danger to living beings living near the place where
this
waste is dumped.
Finally
, yet importantly, the risk of leakage sue to human error or any natural calamities is

associated with the usage of
this
tech.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
