You have seen an advertisement in an Australian Magazine for someone to live with a family for six months and look after their six-year-old child. Write a letter to the parents. In your letter Explain why you would like the job Give details of why you would be a suitable person to employ Say how would you spend your free time while you are in Australia

Dear Madam, I write
this
letter to you in reference to your advertisement in The Australian Women’s Weekly for a caretaker for your six-year-old child. I must say that children of
this
age are very energetic and excited to explore different things, play all day long and they need someone to give attention to them the entire day. It is surely very difficult to balance work and personal life in today’s scenario wherein work-from-home has become the norm. I think I suit the job very well because I have been a teacher at the Toddlers Academy. Unfortunately, I lost my employment due to the pandemic as schools are closed. I have the requisite experience to handle children and keep them engaged in various activities for long hours. I like playing various games with children and have a keen interest in playing with Lego blocks. It helps you build your ability to imagine, put those pieces together and create something new. I
also
have some fun educational activities which I play with the kids. These help them in vocational learning. Reading books is one of my hobbies.
Thus
, I think I will be able to manage the work very well. I am currently studying for my

Language here in Australia. I will be devoting my free time to studying for the same. It will be a great opportunity for me if you can offer me the job as it will help me financially to pay off the University fee. Awaiting a positive revert from you. Regards, Varun Tinna.

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
