You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. You have a full-time job and you are also doing a part-time evening course. You now find that you cannot continue the course. Write a letter to your teachers. In your letter describe the situation explain why you cannot continue at this time say what action you would like to take You do NOT need to write any addresses. Begin your letter as follows: Dear ................. , There are three main things to consider before writing your essay: 1. Tone (formal or informal) Sometimes students are friendly with their tutors, but I think it would be better to write a formal letter. Start with your tutor’s surname (e.g. Dear Mr. Smith,) and end with “Yours sincerely,”. Avoid contractions (write “I am” instead of “I’m”), and avoid using informal idioms or expressions. Be polite rather than friendly. 2. Purpose The main purpose of this letter is to inform your tutor that you are leaving the course. Make this clear straight away (e.g. I am writing to inform you that...). Then cover the three points, writing a short paragraph for each. 3. Ideas I recommend spending a few minutes planning ideas for each of the task points before you start writing. You need to decide what the evening course is about, what your full-time job is, a reason why you are too busy with work to continue with the course, and whether you want to leave completely or perhaps continue at a later date. You should write at least 150 words.

Dear Prof. Chadi, I am writing to inform you that due to urgent travel regarding my work, I will skip three days from your training course about water resources management. I highly appreciate your efforts and valuable information, so I will be glad to iterate the missed sessions later. Unfortunately, because of my full-time job, I will be very busy at
this
time. Recently, I am taking charge of the structural plans and designs of all construction projects in my engineering company. Currently, my company has won a deal for designing and executing a tower in UAE.
However
, before starting the work it is necessary to do a site inspection and my manager selected me to perform the mission required.
As a result
, I will not be able to continue the course because I am obliged to travel to Dubai for 3 days.
Moreover
, There is three hours difference in time between our city and Dubai, so I will be unable to attend your class online.
In addition
, I would ask you for approval to take an extra session after returning from Dubai regarding the information that I will skip if it is possible. Just to remind you that recently we have already started discussing a very important part about the structure of framework used in water management,
therefore
, I do not want to miss
such
significant information.
Finally
, I really appreciate it if you understand my situation and accept my request to skip the course hope to be recompensed later. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully, China Tarhini.

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
