Nowadays, the public has varying opinions as to the values placed on the
skills
of a worker,
such
that some people value hands-on
skills
while others believe that theoretical
skills
should be prioritized, and going forward one may think that there would be no need for getting a university degree.
This
has been a recurring topic of discussion. Some societies believe that practical
skills
are more important, and there may not be the need for acquiring any formal education. I,
however
, agree with the fact that being practical should be superior to being theoretical but I believe that a formal discipline still has a role in how practical a work staff can be. The following essay will argue the reasons for my opinion.
The society that believes theoretical knowledge should be valued more than being skilful practically, do so because they think that the theoretical basis of every knowledge comes
first
, and should be prioritized.
For instance
, an individual may place more attention on the theoretical aspects of operating a piece of machinery, thinking that with
such
, an individual will definitely have the ability to operate
such
machinery.
However
,
this
is not true in reality.
On the other hand
, practical abilities are result-oriented,
hence
, the reason why they are more valuable, especially in work settings.
For example
, if I were an employer, I would rather choose to employ an individual who is more skilful in a practical sense rather than a person who is just theoretical because all I need in my company is good results and profit-oriented outcomes. Even though it is very wise to consider hands-on ability to be more important than theoretical
skills
, it will be totally preposterous to assume that formal qualifications would no longer be useful.
The importance of formal training cannot be overemphasized in terms of skill acquisition.
Therefore
, it is imperative for potential job seekers to acquire formal learning to equip themselves with the requisite theoretical basis for the practical
skills
they will acquire.
For example
, a person who has both academic and manual knowledge of his abilities will be more refined and adaptable in his abilities compared to an individual who only has manual
skills
. Again, an individual who has a qualification in what he practicalizes is likely to be more professional and can easily teach his
skills
to someone else.
For example
, the theories behind the techniques to do things at an individual's place of work gives that person a deeper understanding
such
that
this
individual can easily transfer his technical
skills
to an apprentice.
In conclusion, the reasons why practical ability is weightier than theories are numerous, notwithstanding, that obtaining a prior qualification will improve the quality of the hands-on
skills
. For
this
reason, an employer of labour will value an individual that understands the technicalities and has the requisite mental attributes for their practice more.
This
essay has discussed the reasons for my opinion.
