You should spend about 20 minutes on this task You have seen an advertisement in an Australian magazine for someone to live with a family for six months and look after their six- year-old child. Write a letter to the parents. In your letter – Explain why you would like the job – give details of why you would be a suitable person to employ – say how you would spend your free time while you are in Australia

Dear Sir, My name is Jane Robert. I live in the Southern part of Australia. I am writing a letter in regards to your advert published in the magazine to stay with your family for six months and take care of your child. In
this
view, I would be interested to accept the
job
. Currently, I am doing a part-time
job
.
Therefore
, I have free time till mid of the day.
Moreover
, your location is just 5 miles away from my home and there is frequent city bus transportation available between our places.
Thus
, I believe that the
job
will be most suitable for me. Since I am a mother of 10 years old daughter.
Hence
, I know very well how to handle small children and make them more comfortable in absence of their parents.
Furthermore
, I have a diploma in child care speciality which supports me to apply my skills to the development of children. I will be spending my time mainly with your kid. I can take her to different activities. I may go with her to the swimming class which is held by the community centre every day. I will be available during weekends
also
to go cycling and play in the gardens. I hope you will consider me for
this
job
. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully, Jane Rober,

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
