Begin your letter as follows: Dear Sir or Madam,

Dear Sir or Madam, I hope
this
letter finds you well. My name is Serag and working as an urban architect. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the authority's plans to build a shopping centre near my home. I heard
this
information
while
I was reading the local newspaper, so it is not a rumour and has already been planned to be constructed for the next year. I think it will be inconvenient for
this
area to build something like a shopping centre here because we have another one about two kilometres away, and it will raise the problem of traffic jams we are suffering from in
this
area.
Finally
, I would like to ask for a new investigation into
this
area. Yours faithfully, Serag Mounir

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
