You have been invited to attend an admissions interview for a prestigious college. Unfortunately, you cannot come at the proposed time due to a previous appointment. Write a letter to the admissions tutor and explain your position. In your letter: • Introduce yourself and state your interest in the program • Apologize and offer to come at a different time • Ask how long the interview will be and if you will have to take an exam

Dear Mr Sam, I am writing to you to express my apology for not attending the admission interview because there is another appointment at the same time which I have confirmed to them of my visit. My name is Mandeep Singh applied to your college for the master's degree program. I got a lot of positive feedback regarding the college from my friends. I am really looking forward to joining it. But, unfortunately, I received the invitation late as compared to the other college. where I already made a deal with them.
However
, I certainly can come the next day if you would arrange a vacant seat for me.
Moreover
, Kindly advise the length of the interview and timing each day. I do have to take the exam at another institute. Do I have to take it there as well? I hope you would accept my apology and inform me of the new schedule for the admission interview. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Yours sincerely, Mandeep Singh

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
