General Training Task 1 You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Some members of your city council want to prohibit cars on several downtown streets. This will allow pedestrians and bicyclists to use the roads freely. Write a letter to a city council official in your city. In your letter Explain how you heard about the plan Provide some possible effects of this plan Give your opinion about the plan Write at least 150 words You do NOT need to write any addresses. Begin your letter as follows: Dear Sir or Madam,
#minutes #members #city #council #cars #downtown #streets #pedestrians #bicyclists #roads #plan #effects #addresses #sir #madam
Dear Sir or Madam,
Referring to the letter the city council addressed to the citizens of downtown Boston, I understand that the regulation related to traffic in our neighbourhood will be modified soon. I strongly believe that supporting pedestrians and bicyclists through facilitated access to our streets is a good decision.
I imagine that
such
a policy will encourage the population to use alternatives to cars, which should significantly help to reduce pollution. Moreover
, it will certainly help to promote a more active lifestyle in our communities.
This
being said I am also
concerned by the effect such
a decision might have on the most senior portion of the population. In fact, people of greater ages might find it more complicated access to the city centre if access by car is restricted. Consequently
, I would like to suggest increasing the frequency of buses connecting downtown to other neighbourhoods. I was also
wondering whether allowing cars during specific times could be considered.
Yours faithfully,
