the diagram show the life cycle of the silkworm and the stages in the production of silkcloth
The first diagram illustrates the life cycle of the silkworm,
while
the second one describes the process of producing
silk
cloth.
Overall
, the life cycle of a silkworm starts with eggs and ends in
stage
four which is a moth.
Silk
cloth production is a man-made process consisting of multiple linear steps. Silkworms go through four stages in life. The first
stage
is eggs that transform into a silkworm larva after 10 days.
This
larva is the second
stage
in which a mulberry leaf(food) grows beside the growing worm. After 4-6 weeks, a
silk
thread appears on top of the larva. The
last
stage
begins after 3-8 days of the thread formation.
This
stage
is characterised by cocoon formation.
Lastly
, after 16 days, a moth comes out of the cocoon that ultimately produces eggs and
this
cycle goes on.
Silk
cloths are produced in consequential steps. Starting by selecting the appropriate cocoons, and
then
boiling them in water. After that, unwinding the threads from 300 to 900m,
then
twisting is done. Following these steps, a dye is placed as the
last
step, or weaving of threads is done before the dye, if needed.
