The bar chart illustrates data about the weekly expenditure of an average household in a particular country in 1968 and 2018.
Overall
,
while
the proportion of
income
spent on leisure, housing, and transport increased, the figure for food and clothing almost halved. The only number that remained steady was household goods. In 1968, people used to spend a higher proportion of their
income
on most categories involved in the question. It is evident that food expenses decreased significantly by more than 15%, and reached more than 15% of weekly
income
expenditure. Fuel and power, clothing and footwear, and personal goods followed the same pattern. People used to allocate 10% of their weekly
income
to buying clothes and shoes, but the number decreased by 5% during the period in question. The amount of money allocated to personal goods was well over 5% in 1968, but it dropped to well under 5% in 2018. Looking at the housing, transport and leisure expenses, those are the only three figures which witnessed an improvement over the 5 decades. The percentage of an average family's salary allocated to housing saw an increase of about 10% and almost doubled. As regards transport and leisure, the figures improved and reached just under 15% and well above 20%, respectively.
