The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.
The bar chart illustrates the proportion of owned and rented
accommodation
in two countries namely England and Wales from 1918 to 2011.
Overall
,
it is clear that
the percentage of
households
owned followed an upward trend,
whereas
that of
households
rented was completely opposite. Looking at the chart, it can be observed that in 1918, approximately 80% of people in England and Wales combined appeared to rent
accommodation
instead
of owning one. From
this
point, the proportion of
households
rented followed a decline as it accounted for roughly 70% in 1939 and remained unchanged in 1961.
Moreover
, the percentages were equal at 50% in both categories during 1971. After 1971, the percentage of people owning
accommodation
exceeded that of people who rented, which was a converse situation compared to the period before 1971. In 1981, the proportion of owned
accommodation
increased to 60% before continuing to grow by nearly 10% in 2001.
Furthermore
, there was a slight drop in the percentage of
households
owed during 2011 (below 65%),
whereas
that of renting
accommodation
plummeted to roughly 40%.
