It is clear from the first chart that two learning purposes, for career
and for interest, show completely opposite trends, with the proportion of the former increasing as students become older. The second chart illustrates that the level of employers
' supporting willingness decreased first and increased when employees
were over their thirties.
The percentage of learning for a career
was highest when learners were under 26, at around 80%. Then
the proportion decreased as the age increased. Only about 20% of people
over 49 studied for a career
. However
, the pattern was the opposite with regard to studying for career
purposes. Merely around 10% of students under 26 chose to study for interests, and the proportions continually went up as ages grew. People
in their forties shared balanced views of reasons for learning. About 70% of people
over 49 preferred to study for interests.
From employers
' perspectives, younger employees
were more worthwhile to invest in. Employees
under 26% could receive more than 60% support from employers
. Then
the proportion shrank for the older groups. People
aged between 30 and 39 saw the lowest level of employers
' support, with about 30%. After their forties, employees
could be entitled to 50% of learning support by employers
