The diagrams below show a structure that is used to generate electricity from wave power. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The two diagrams provide an overview of a man-made construction by the sea. It shows how the structure creates electricity thanks to the force of the waves. The artificial construction is based on a cliff or a sea wall. It consists of a chamber, in which the wave gets in and in a long column, where a turbine is located.
Firstly
a wave fills a large chamber and, thanks to its power, the air is pushed up to the column.
Secondly
, the air pressure activates a turbine, which rotates clockwise, and electricity is generated.
Nevertheless
, the process is not over yet, because the structure is able to use the power as the sea flows away too.
In particular
, the second diagram illustrates that, once the wave has pulled out, the air goes down, so that the turbine is activated again.
Due to
this
movement, which is in the same direction as before, more electricity is produced.
