The diagram below shows the water cycle in both forested and urban areas. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagrams illustrate the water cycle in city and forested regions. There are some differences between the processes,
however
, the stages are basically the same.
Overall
, there are 6 steps, of which 3 are above the soil, such
as precipitation, evaporation and transpiration, while
there are more than 3steps beneath the ground such
as infiltration, baseflow and runoff. Precipitation remains the same in both scenarios, whereas
the other steps have some changes.
The processes are cycles, repeating every time indefinitely. The main feature of the urban cycle is that it has a reduction in evaporation, transpiration, baseflow, and infiltration when compared with the cycle in the jungle. Besides
, it has an increase in polluted runoff and erosion of the soil. Both phenomena occur due to
a lack of permeation of the ground. The soil in cities is covered by concrete and there are fewer green areas to absorb the rainfall water. On the other hand
, in forested regions, there are more trees and foliage that help water infiltration, providing protection against erosion and increasing the transpiration by vegetal cover.Submitted by fmulato on
