Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The picture illustrates the formation of the Monarch butterfly. There are 4 main stages in the life cycle, starting from the egg
stage
to the adult
stage
.
The first step is
to lay eggs on milkweed and during the next 14 days, a larva is hatched and the larval
stage
begins. Once the larva has grown into a caterpillar, the feeding process is started. It eats leaves in the milkweed as food. After receiving enough food, an attachment is formed getting a tree branch as a support.
This
formation is kept for about 10 days and a chrysalis is created. In order
to begin
the pupal
stage
, chrysalis comes out from the cover as an adult. Following that,
this
butterfly migrates to the South taking about 6 months. The final
stage
of the cycle is the adult
stage
. For the purpose of finding a mate,
this
butterfly moves towards the North. Upon finding a suitable fellow, mating is done and eggs are laid on leaves.
