The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagram provided illustrates the process of electricity generation using geothermal
energy
. In general Geothermal energy
harnesses the Earth's internal heat to generate electricity, making it a sustainable and reliable energy
source.
Cold water
is injected into the Earth through an injection well, reaching a depth of approximately 4.5 kilometres. The injected cold water
moves to the geothermal zone, where it encounters hot rocks. This
area contains a high concentration of heat which is absorbed by water
heat from these rocks, transforming into hot water
or steam
. The heated water
or steam
is then
pumped back to the surface through a production well. The steam
or hot water
is directed to a condenser. In the condenser, the steam
is cooled back into water
after transferring its energy
to drive the turbine. The steam
powers a turbine, which is connected to a generator. As the steam
passes through the turbine, it causes blades to spin, converting thermal energy
into a mechanical one. The generator then
converts this
mechanical energy
into electrical currency, which is supplied to the power grid.Submitted by checkmyessay9 on
