University
-age
students
often live with their parents and relatives, but some may have to move their place of residence when their
university
is outside their locality.
While
relocating to a different place for
university
studies does benefit
students
in some respects, I consider that the downsides of
this
move are more considerable.
On the one hand, living and studying away from
home
can bring a lot of benefits to
students
. First and foremost, it can increase self-reliance and responsibility.
In other words
, living away from
home
fosters independence as
students
learn to manage their own schedules, finances, and daily tasks without parental oversight or the help of others.
As a result
,
students
can become better and more independent people by controlling their lives and studies and managing their time. Take Asian
students
who moved to European countries as an example.
Initially
, they have to find a new
home
and control their
study
plan
as well as
their living expenses without parental supervision, as they do not live with their family and relatives anymore.
Secondly
, residing away from
home
can contribute to academic growth.
This
suggests that living on or near campus can provide easier access to
university
resources
such
as libraries, labs, and
study
groups, potentially leading to better academic performance.
This
is just because they should only
study
and learn more, as they can access
such
resources and are not interrupted by other people any longer.
As a result
, they can achieve higher and more important achievements, as the only thing they should do is
study
, and they can focus on studying more than other things.
On the other hand
, I assert that living and learning outside of family members and their locality have a lot of negatives; the primary drawback is financial difficulties.
This
implies that living away from
home
can be expensive for
students
, as they should pay for rent, utilities, groceries, transportation, and other things.
Moreover
, they must work
along with
studying at
university
, which puts them under additional financial stress and difficulties.
As a consequence
, if
students
cannot bear the bills and financial costs, they may stop studying at a foreign
university
;
instead
, they may want to
study
at local universities. Another drawback is social isolation. What I mean by
this
is that some
students
may struggle to adjust to a new environment or find it challenging to make new friends, especially if they are introverted or socially anxious,
due to
the fact that it is difficult for everyone to start afresh for the first time in a different country or city.
Furthermore
, admittedly, every student residing away from their family and relatives experiences homesickness, missing family, friends, and familiar surroundings.
As a consequence
, they may face some problems with mental health and perform negatively in exams or lectures.
All things considered,
although
there are certain benefits for
students
studying abroad, like a boost in self-reliance and focusing more on
study
, I believe there are
also
significant drawbacks
such
as social exclusion and economic difficulties.
