The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph depicts the number of products transported in Britain from 1974 to 2002 by four various types of transport.
Overall
, the road was the most demanding mode of transport, while
the pipeline was the lowest one among them.
It can be seen that roads had a growing trend in many parts of the graph over this
period which started from almost 70 million
tonnes
in 1974 until it reached just under 100 million
tonnes
in 2002. On the other hand
, the line of pipelines began with around 5 million
tonnes
in 1974 and continued its increase to place just above 20 million
tonnes
in 2002.
To look into details, both water and rail modes had an almost similar start in 1974 with around 40 million
tonnes
and kept it steady to 1978. But, from 1978 to 2002, their trends became different. Clearly, water increased from 40 million
tonnes
to nearly 60 million
tonnes
from 1978 to 1982 respectively and almost kept it constant until 1990. Then
it decreased to around 50 million
tonnes
and suddenly rose in 1998 to reach around 63 million
tonnes
in 2002. On to flip side, rail had some fluctuations its rates were under 40 million
tonnes
until 1998. After 1998, it grew slightly just above 40 million
tonnes
in 2002.Submitted by brightstargalaxy on
