You recently attended a meeting at a hotel. When you returned home, you found you had left some important papers at the hotel. Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter: •Explain the problem •Suggest a solution •Say why parking will benefit all employees

I hope you are well. I recently attended a business meeting at your hotel on June 10th. After returning home, I realized I had left some important papers in the meeting room. The papers are in a blue folder with my name, David Green, on the front. They include company documents I need for a report. Could you please check if your staff found the folder? If so, I would be very thankful if you could keep it safe. I can come and pick it up or you can send it by post if

, I would like to suggest that your hotel adds more parking spaces. Many people at the meeting found it hard to park. More parking will help all employees and guests, making their visit more comfortable and stress-free.

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
