One way to reduce the problem of traffic congestion is by increasing the tax on private vehicles. Do you think this is a feasible solution?

Nowadays, the population in cities is growing at an exponential pace, increasing the number of vehicles per person, which results in
traffic
congestion
. There is an opinion that by taxing private vehicles, the menace of
traffic
congestion
can be solved.
However
, I am not in agreement with
this
ideology, as
this
is not a permanent solution.
This
essay will embark upon the strategies to reduce
traffic
congestion
in cities without levying hefty taxes on the general public.
To begin
with, Increment in the tax over the private ownership vehicles will cause discomfort middle-class people and they will stop using their private vehicles and turn to public transport, whereas,
this
will not impact rich people. Taxes may lead to a decrease in the overall number of a private
vehicle
and which will show a reduction in
traffic
. To cite an example, The Government of India had increased road tax on the new
vehicle
in 2017 from 5% to 10%,
this
resulted in a reduction in 12% of new
vehicle
purchases and increase in
use
Suggestion
the use
of public transport.
On the other hand
, by providing awareness to the general public about public transport and the use of private vehicles can result in curbing the menace of
traffic
congestion
. The government can develop wider roads, pavements, separate lanes for two-wheelers and planned cities will be helpful in the reduction of
traffic
jams. To cite an example, Chandigarh is a modern city with strict
traffic
rules and wide roads showed a streamlined flow of
traffic
. To recapitulate, I disagree with the terminology of increasing tax on the private
vehicle
to fight with
traffic
, whereas the government can play a vital role by awareness and guidance to the general public for techniques to reduce
traffic
.
