Pie charts above illustrate government spending across 9 different categories in 2010 and 2015. Over the five year period, there were few important changes regarding funding in all categories. In both years the most expensive areas were: education, healthcare, pensions and defence. They accounted for 81% in 2010 and 74% in 2015.
However
, the least significant expenditures were: transport, culture and leisure. Welfare and interest on borrowing were more expensive, but significantly less important than the four main categories.
Although
, in 2015 the government decided to spend less on education, healthcare and defence, pensions expenditure remained the same. There was
also
a 5% increase in transport costs and interest on borrowing. Welfare and culture were reduced in funding by over a half. Overall, even though the government spent the most on education, healthcare, pensions and defence, it had to reduce their funding due to higher costs of transport and interest on borrowing.
