Some organisations believe that their employees should dress smartly. Other value quality of work above appearance. Discuss both these views and give your own opinions.
In modern society, the freedom of clothing has been becoming being accepted at
work
. While there is a belief at the organisation level that employees should dress smartly, others think that the quality of work
outweighs their appearance
. It is clear that although
the appearance
may not affect their performance, employees need to wear neat clothes
when they work
.
The first
aspect to point out is that wearing adequate clothes
can give customers
a good impression. Most workers need to meet their customers
at some point and the first
impression from the customers
has a great impact on their businesses. For instance
, if a doctor's appearance
was unkempt, patients would not feel comfortable because it might give them a negative image in terms of hygienic. This
would affect the doctor's reputation even though they have excellent skills in surgery.
However
, it could be suggested that one's knowledge and experience of their job cannot be judged by their appearance
. For example
, teachers do not have their uniforms at work
, thus
, they wear their ordinary clothes
. Students tend to see their abilities of coaching by their knowledge rather than their appearance
. Thus
, some may state that the quality of work
is above appearance
.
To conclude, despite the fact that employees cannot be judged their performance by their appearance
, the impressions from their customers
have a great impact on their businesses in both positive and negative manners. Therefore
, workers should wear adequate clothes
at work
