Last
week, I came across an advertisement for a training program related to geotechnical engineering, mainly targeting graduates. This
training is called "Basics of geotechnical field investigation"; run by Engineers Australia. This
course
aims to educate the fundamentals of geology around Melbourne and the types of investigation undertaken for tunnel designs.
Firstly
, I would like to request
your permission for one week's leave for this
course
, at the start of April. Secondly
, May I please request
a $1500 company sponsorship for this
course
?
As you may know, I am currently working on a tunnelling project. This
induction will enhance my knowledge and give me confidence in my workplace. Not only will this
opportunity help me gain
insight into the investigation, but also
to expand my connections with peers in the industry.
I hope you would appreciate my request
and provide me this
golden opportunity. Thank you for your consideration and I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours Faithfully,

Structure your letter
A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:
- A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
- The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
- A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)
When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.
All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
