The line graphs show the percentage of people using public transport and people using private cars in five cities of Australia from 2000 to 2010.
While
the first line chart provides information about the proportion of residents in five urban areas of Australia utilizing means of public transportation between 2000 and 2010, the second diagram illustrates the share of
people
using private automobiles in the same regions and period.
Overall
, there was in constant increase in the percentage of inhabitants who used private cars in all five cities, with the highest figure being seen in Sydney and the lowest one being found in Melbourne. Meanwhile, that of
people
using public vehicles changed inconsistently between other cities. In 2000, only 5% of Melbourne travelled by public transport, followed by a marginal rise to about 6% after a decade. A similar transformation can be seen in the data on Perth, which started at 15% before reaching 16% in 2010. Despite some fluctuations, the figures for Canberra and Adelaide had no changes after 10 years, with respective numbers being 10% and 12%.
Conversely
, the proportion of occupants using public vehicles saw a moderate decrease from 20% to 18%, but it still far exceeded that of other metropolises examined. At the beginning of the period, 80% of Melbourne
people
drove their private cars, after which it grew to approximately 90% in 2010. The figures for Canberra, Adelaide and Perth
also
saw considerable growth before ending at 80%, 55% and 40% in that order.
Similarly
, the proportion of
people
using private automobiles in Sydney doubled over 10 years, starting at 10% and ending at around 22%.
