information regarding the stages in the life of a
silkworm
and the process by which silk
cloth
is produced. The first diagram follows the lifecycle of the
silkworm
from its egg stage to its adult breeding stage, lasting for the duration of 59-72
days
. The second diagram introduces the processing of the
silkworm
cocoons into the final product of silk
cloth
. The lifetime of a
silkworm
begins as an egg lay on a mulberry leaf. In 8-10
days
, the egg hatches and the larva begins to feed on the mulberry leaves surrounding it. After 30-40
days
of feeding, the larva starts to spin a thread around itself, which forms the cocoon.
This
process takes 4-7
days
to complete. After 15
days
of evolving within the cocoon, the mature moth breaks out and starts to breed with others of its species. The process of silk
cloth
production begins by selecting cocoons spun by the larva. These selected cocoons are
then
boiled and unwound. The individual threads can measure anywhere between 250 to 900m.
Further
twisting and weaving of
this
thread
then
takes place to form the
cloth
which is dyed to obtain the final product.
