I am writing
this
letter requesting your help in finding a mobile phone, which I have lost on a train during my daily commute.
I use your services daily for my commute from home to office and back. Every day, I board the same train from Malad, which departs for Churchgate at 9.00 am. Like always, I have kept my mobile phone in my bag, which I later kept it
in the overhead space. After I alighted from the train, I was unable to find my mobile phone in its designated place. I am assuming that it might have slipped from my bag and will be lying in the overhead space.

The Greeting
Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.
Always start an informal letter in the ways:
- Dear + name
- Hi / Hello + name
‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.
For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:
- Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
- Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
