Some people think that employers should give their staff at least four weeks of holidays a year to make employees better at their jobs. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

A school of thought holds that prolonging vacation’s length up to one month could improve the working performance of
employees
. Regarding
this
issue, I do not agree
due to
the reasons outlined below.
Firstly
, long-
time
holidays
provide
employees
with more
time
to accommodate their own needs. To illustrate, staff can utilize the
time
to accompany family members, enjoy rest or manage physical and mental health conditions. That means, after being packed with jobs, they could have a chance to adjust themselves and their working pattern, eventually leading to higher working efficiency. Another knock-on effect brought about by a longer vacation is that it might, in return, improve
employees
'
job
satisfaction and their sense of belonging to the corporation, which seemingly can create productivity and foster their willingness to devote more energy to their
job
.
However
, I disagree with the idea because many problems could arise owing to the
policy
of extending
holidays
.
Firstly
,
this
policy
appears to be the precursor to a post-vacation depression in which
employees
feel a lack of energy and enthusiasm towards their
job
.
In other words
, after
such
a long
time
being diverted away from the professional working environment,
employees
may feel tired and tedious, finding it hard to resume the
job
since, at that
time
, all their working zeal has been exhausted.
Secondly
, long-
time
holidays
could
also
take a heavy toll on
employees
' working skills as it may interrupt their working pattern, making them feel unfamiliar with their current skills.
Lastly
, the
policy
of prolonging
holidays
can be employed as an excuse for reducing operating costs and dismissing
employees
during the economic recession. In fact,
this
case has been witnessed in Vietnam, after the COVID-19 when economic and trading activities become lower, several companies passed a
policy
asking their staff to have a longer vacation without proper compensation, which has caused much resentment among Vietnamese workers, leading to their degraded motivation towards the
job
when going back to their workplace. In conclusion,
although
benefits regarding staff morale and cooperation appear noticeable, I opine it is imprudent to overlook the numerous disadvantages it entails.
