You have lost an item of value on a train. Write a letter to the railway company. In your letter describe the item explain where and when you left it say what action you would like the company to take Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses. Begin your letter as follows: Dear Sir or Madam,

Dear Sir or Madam, My name is Fatemeh Gharibi and I was a passenger on train 945 to Toronto on June 25 2023. I am writing to you to inform you about my wallet which I lost on that ride and request your assistance in finding and returning it to me. It is a green leather wallet with yellow stripes decorations, which contains my ID card, credit cards and $300 cash.
Although
it is rather worn out, it has a great deal of emotional value to me, because it was a gift. I am sure that I had it on me when I got on the train at 1:00 pm.
However
, I cannot be certain when exactly I lost it. There is
also
a possibility that someone might have stolen it. I would be immensely grateful if you could ask your staff to search for my wallet and deliver it to my home address. In case the shipment cost is not covered by your company, I am able to pick it up from your central office. Looking forward to hearing from you Kind regards, Fatemeh Gharibi

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
