Women and men are commonly seen as having different strengths and weaknesses. Is it right to exclude males or females from certain professions because of their gender?
It is true that females and males have different physical and psychological characteristics, and
thus
some people argue that professions or jobs that need more physical strength are suitable for men
, and women
should not be allowed to do these physical jobs. However
, I vehemently believe that both
women
and men
should be given the same opportunity to choose any kind of job they like.
To begin
with, while
it is true that men
generally have more physical power than average women
, this
does not mean that women
could not perform men
-stereotypical jobs like becoming an engineer or fishermen. A survey conducted in Indonesia reveals that there is an increase in the number of women
working in fields that previously were exclusive to males, such
as pilots and programmers. Indeed, in this
modern era, there are various technological equipment in place, making it possible for both
males and females to do any kind of task equally.
The world we living had a dark history of discrimination against women
. Thus
, the government and society should work together to promote equality for both
genders, by giving the same opportunity for them to work in all sectors. Personally, I believe that choosing a job or profession
should be based on preferences and talents, and not because of gender. In addition
, having both
genders in any profession
may be seen as a positive development. For example

women
work as police officers, and as a result
, the attitude towards police officers has changed in Indonesia. These days, many citizens start to see police officers as kind and respected individuals.
In conclusion, although
women
and men
are generally seen as having different personal characteristics, I believe that it is not right to exclude any gender from any profession
. Having both
genders in any profession
there is may actually give that profession
