Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing
this
letter to seek information about accommodation in your
hotel
. I am James , myself
along with
my five friends planning to visit Dubai for summer vacation on 30th March.
while
browsing the internet I came across your
hotel
, which has a five-star rating. I am looking for accommodation in your
hotel
for us and need more details about our stay. I would like to know more about the
hotel
rooms, as we are six members , we are looking for three bedrooms and two people can adjust in each room. As it was mentioned on the website to provide free meals, I would like to know more about the food being served , we prefer eating vegetarian food. As we are non-smokers , we are looking for non-smoking rooms and we would be happy if we get a balcony for the rooms, as your
hotel
is on the bank of the sea , it would be a great sightseeing place from the balcony. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours faithfully, Dillirao.

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
