IELTS **Task:** *The maps below show the changes that have taken place in Meadowside village and Fonton, a neighbouring town, since 1962.* **Information to use in your report:** **1962:** Meadowside Village was a small settlement located west of Fonton. It had two roads, one leading west and another north. Fonton was a separate town to the east. A railway line ran through Fonton. There was a large undeveloped area separating Meadowside from Fonton. **1985:** Meadowside Village had expanded. A **housing estate** was added in the west, a **leisure complex** was built near the centre, and a **superstore** appeared in the south. The road system was developed, including a main road extending eastwards towards Fonton. Fonton also expanded, although the two settlements remained separate. **Now:** Meadowside Village has become **Meadowside Suburbs** and has expanded further. Meadowside and Fonton are now joined, forming a continuous developed area. The housing estate, leisure complex and superstore remain. A **hotel** and a **railway station** have been built between Meadowside and Fonton. A new railway line connects the station to the railway in Fonton. A **business park** has also been constructed south of the main road. **Main changes to identify for your overview:** Meadowside and Fonton have both expanded significantly; the two previously separate settlements have merged; Meadowside has changed from a small village into a suburban area; and the area has gained many new facilities and better transport infrastructure.
