You have just received a credit card statement from your bank. The statement lists a number of expensive purchases that you are sure you did not make. Write a letter to the bank manager. In the letter: • Introduce yourself. • Explain that you did not buy the items listed. • Say what you would like the bank to do to fix the problem.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you with regard to my credit
card
statement
wherein a number of discrepancies have been noticed by me.
My name is Sheeba Hasan and I have been a priority customer of your bank for 15 years. I have a savings account in the Gabbana branch, the account number of which is 78653553663382. Recently I upgraded to the Platinum Credit Card
that was offered by your bank bearing the number 5564 7665 7733 8883.
I was aghast to receive my last
credit card
statement
dated July 4 ,2020
as it had several high-value transactions that were not carried out by me. Add a comma
,2020
For instance
, there is an entry of INR 60,000 towards dining expenses which is absolutely absurd. In fact, I have never been to the restaurant mentioned in the statement
. Another purchase of INR 25,000 seems to have been made at a clothing store but the timing mentioned falls during my office hours. Hence
, there is no way I could have swiped my card
at that time. There is another item listed in the statement
worth INR 10,000 that I don’t recall buying as I was not in the city at that time.
I am extremely distressed by this
situation and would like you to verify all these purchases with the respective stores and get detailed information about the same. If need be, lodge a police complaint about suspected fraudulent activities. Moreover
, I would expect you to not charge my account towards the payment of my dues till this
matter is sorted. As a last
resort, you can block my card
and issue me a new one to protect me from further
misdeeds.
As a valued customer, I expect you to take corrective measures immediately and resolve this
issue to my satisfaction.
I look forward to your prompt response.
Yours faithfully,
Sheeba HasanSubmitted by sheeba.s.hasan on

Structure your letter
A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:
- A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
- The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
- A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)
When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.
All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
