greeting and closing
Ensure that the opening and closing of the letter are appropriately formal. Instead of 'Dear Sir or Madam,' research the company to find the appropriate contact person. Close the letter with a more formal sign-off, such as 'Yours sincerely,' when you know the name or 'Yours faithfully,' when the name is unknown, following it with your full name.
suitable writing tone
Maintain a formal tone throughout the letter to align with the context of a job application. Avoid using casual language and contractions.
complete response
Develop paragraphs fully to expand on each point. Include more details about the alternative interview dates you propose and show greater flexibility if possible. Also, provide clearer explanations or evidence of your interest in the job and how your skills align with it.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
