consistent increase throughout the years. From 1970 until 2016 the amount of marriages decreased significantly and the number of divorced couples increased slightly. From 1970 until 2010, there had been a stable increase in never-married people of about 3% each decade, starting from only 2% in 1970 up to 15% in 2010. There has been a steep decline in married inhabitants going from 1.000.000 in 1970 to 800.000 in 1980. For the following two decades, there was a slight fluctuation where the numbers remained around 800.000. From 2000 there was a graduate decrease in marriages to just over 600.000 in 2016.
